On June 7th 2017, Associate Professor Peter Murray and Dr Julia Hoy presented to students at Laidley District High School about research careers in animal science, and the Hidden Vale UQ Wildlife Centre project.
The students were engaged and actively participated in the discussion, with some great ideas for conservation. The students were particularly excited to learn about the Hidden Vale UQ Wildlife Centre project which is effectively in their own backyard.
At the end of the presentation, some students remarked that they were not particularly interested in wildlife science or conservation before the presentation, but now they are!
Engaging students early in their education can have a lasting positive impact on conservation and staff from the Hidden Vale UQ Wildlife Centre will continue to spread the message in all sectors of the wider community.
