What to bring and station life

• Rain-protective clothing and warm clothing
• Water bottle
• Torch.

There is little phone reception at some areas of the property. At the wildlife centre some reception is available, usually outside.

The wildlife centre building has wi-fi available which works well. This can be accessed anywhere within the Centre grounds however is best used from the post-graduate student room where hot desks are available for student/academic use.

If you're going onto the property please organise to bring a satellite phone or spot device for safety. These can be organised through your School’s safety delegate.

All our staff have first aid training.

The station is well stocked with first aid equipment, including a defibrillator, remote field first aid kit and multiple snake bite kits.

Remember:  Hidden Vale is in a remote location, with some distance to medical centres and emergency services, so consider your medical requirements carefully before you visit us.

You’ll need to have risk assessments in place to support your activities at the station.

If you’re from UQ, fill out a health and safety risk assessment.

If you’re from outside UQ, follow your organisation’s risk assessment procedures.

You’ll need permits for certain fieldwork activities and must provide us with copies before you arrive at the station.
